    Question

Hey! I've wanted to make a film for about 3 years and I'm 15 years old and I am desperate to find out a good place to buy good filmmaking equipment (camcorders, lighting, the whole kitten cadoodle) so if you can give me a few tips, that will be cool.

    Never give up.

hey there pal. I'm a young film-maker (17) and I just thought that I should tell you, Get your hands on whatever you can!!!! 8mm, DV, Super8, vhs anything thats available go for it, borrow rather than buy.... use whats available to you and write your films around what you have otherwise you'll have big problems

just bought an AMAZING Super8 off of EBAY for $30.00 and use it VERY often. It's the cheapest route to go and still be shooting on FILM. Otherwise, VHS all the way.

I gotta agree with director666.Use what ever you can get your grubby hands on.Just keep in mind the COST!!Film is nice but video is cheaper and easier for the beginer.

    I hope this helps!

VHS can be quite cool if used correctly. Don't hide behind the VHS trying to look like film appearance. CELEBRATE the VHS and put it right out there in front. Make no bones about the fact that you're using a VHS. This is quite effective and can make some GREAT films!

Well, VHS can be cool if that's the look you are aiming for...but I'm assuming since Si Cole is merely trying to make a first movie, he wants a usable, reasonable format. For the most bang for your buck, I'd go Hi8 due to the better image quality, stereo sound capabilities, etc, especially if he's editing linearly
